4 traditions to check off

Stamped! keeps these as a checklist, so you can tick each one off on the visit.

  • Dartmouth Night Bonfire

Each Homecoming weekend a large bonfire is built on the Green and first-year students run laps around it, one for each year of their class number. Visitors can watch the parade and the lit bonfire from around the Green.

  • Winter Carnival Snow Sculpture

Every February for Winter Carnival, students build a large themed snow sculpture on the Green. Visitors can stop by to see and photograph it.

  • Warner Bentley's Nose

Students rub the nose of the statue of Warner Bentley in the Hopkins Center for the Arts for good luck, which has left it discoloured. Visitors to the Hop can find the statue and give it a rub.

  • The Bema and the Old Pine

On Class Day seniors gather at the Bema, a natural amphitheatre in College Park, then walk up the hill to the stump of the Old Pine for a farewell ceremony that dates to the 1830s. Visitors can walk through College Park to see both spots.
