Campus architect F. E. Giesecke knew little about reinforced concrete, so he doubled the steel in the 1914 Academic Building. Workers later needed blowtorches to add water pipes.

2 traditions to check off

Stamped! keeps these as a checklist, so you can tick each one off on the visit.

  • Pennies on Sully

Students leave pennies at the base of the statue of Lawrence Sullivan Ross for luck before exams, recalling his reply "a penny for your thoughts." The coins are given to charity each semester.

  • Century Tree

This live oak, one of the first trees planted on campus, is well over 100 years old. By legend, a couple who walk beneath it together will marry.
