3 traditions to check off

Stamped! keeps these as a checklist, so you can tick each one off on the visit.

  • Alma Mater Statue

Lorado Taft's 1929 bronze of a robed woman with outstretched arms stands by Altgeld Hall to welcome students. Stop for a photo with her, a classic Illinois picture.

  • Altgeld Chimes

The chime of 15 bells in Altgeld Hall's tower has rung since 1920, marking the hours and playing short concerts. Listen near the tower for "Hail to the Orange," played at every concert.

  • Morrow Plots

Planted in 1876, these small fields are the oldest agricultural experiment fields in the United States and a National Historic Landmark. Walk past them beside the Undergraduate Library.
