5 traditions to check off

Stamped! keeps these as a checklist, so you can tick each one off on the visit.

  • The Gravity Monument

Hidden in the trees off Dowman Drive is a pink marble monument that Roger Babson gave Emory in 1963 to honor the sciences. Many say it looks more like a tombstone in the woods. See if you can find it.

  • Lullwater Preserve and Tower

Lullwater Preserve is a 154-acre stretch of woods and water that walkers and joggers enjoy. Follow the trail to the old granite tower Walter Candler built beside his dam to power his house.

  • Words Under the Eaves

Henry Hornbostel set the look of the Quad with pink Georgia marble and red tile roofs. Look up under the eaves of the older buildings to find carved words naming what was once taught inside.

  • Source Route

Behind the Carlos Museum, a set of stairs leads down into Baker Woodland. It is part of an environmental sculpture installed in the 1970s. Take the steps into the woods.

  • Robinson Clock Tower Bells

The clock tower on Cox Hall carries carillon bells dedicated in 2001 to honor trustee J. William Robinson and his wife. Listen for them as you cross the campus.
